Quiet area, close to the town- 10 minute steep downhill so 15 minute walk uphill which is a challenge but doable for every hiker!
Close to Levada Nova trail which is amazing. Henriques is a small snackbar just up the road. Estalagem do Ponta do Sol is a hotel that hosts a Friday party called Purple Fridays and is close by. All restaurants in Ponta do Sol are great too.
Je to klidná část městečka, spíše okrajová. Kopce jsou tu tak strmé, že si to Evropan těžko dovede představit, což komplikuje pěší dopravu. V blízkosti je pouze jedna hospůdka s omezenou nabídkou. Další restaurace a obchod jsou o 200 výškových metrů níže v centru.
Hospůdka Henrique ve stejné ulici nabízí skvělé krevety, ponchu, levné pití. Plážový bar Ponta do Sol Sun Spot Café - skvělé jídlo, dobrá atmosféra, jen často zmatený nebo neochotný personál. Vodopád Dos Anjos navštivte před západem slunce, ve dne je tam plno lidí.
It is located in a peaceful residential area, up in the hills from the town of Ponta do Sol. It is walking distance from both the town centre (shops, restaurants) and also a hiking trail (levada) further inland. The locals are friendly and we also met other travellers staying nearby. There are smaller local shops in the local neighbourhood, and a couple of small restaurant/bars.
We would recommend Henrique's just up the road, very cheap local food and drink, friendly staff and a nice view from the upstairs terrace.
In the surrounding area there are a few bars, some of which have a limited selection of groceries to buy. There's also the levada do moinho around 20 minutes away by foot from the house which I recommend going to.
The furniture in the living room is not the most up to date and a bit creaky but other than that the inside of the house is in a very good state and quite comfortable.
Communication with Luisa has been great and she has been very accommodating regarding my questions and requests.
I should mention that it is highly advisable to have a car or motorcycle to live here since the way from Ponta do Sol village to the house is very steep. Watch out for the crossing of Caminho do Pico do Melro and ER 222, it is hard to see or hear cars coming there.

The flat was rated at only 9/10 only because the furnishings while very acceptable are not necessarily "luxurious" if you are seeking a resort-like accomodation. Casa Luisa did however have everything we needed for our stay and therefore an incredible value; we would not hesitate to stay again!
Luisa is the kindest and most helpful person one could hope for in a landlord. We were so sad when it came time to leave :-(
Casa Luisa's location is about 190 m elevation on a high ridge looking Southwest over the Atlantic ocean and the Southern coast of the Madeira with Cabo Girao visible in the distance. The home is located on a steep street which can be walked into town; this location is not for the infirm but we relished our daily walks to town for the exercise, the views, the sounds (and smells at dinner time) and the lovely people and neighbors we would meet along the way. the neighborhood is popular with visitors like us and digital nomads who come to experience the town, the levada hiking and the locale.
Levada hiking is a popular activity and one merely needs to walk uphill for about 15 minutes to access the beautiful and stunning Levada Nova loop and hit one of the local neighborhood cafes on the way back to Casa Luisa for a refreshing beer (or three :-)
